Let's talk change

Let's talk change

Change. It’s everywhere. Or so the saying goes. This certainly applies to me, as someone who has worked in the Organisational Change Management field for over 15 years, not to mention being a self-confessed change-resistor.

Recently I’ve been thinking about the concept of change management from a broader perspective. I mean…what if we actually don’t manage change at all? Sure, there is communication and training if we’re talking the ‘hard stuff’ when a new IT system is implemented or something…but when it comes to the ‘soft stuff’…I’m not sure there’s much that can be done in the way of ‘managing change’ by anyone other than person going through the change.

So that’s where my thinking begins. Yes, there is definitely a place for organisational change management; but I’m starting to think that really, for how the world is today, we just need to be more adept at responding effectively to change in general. As people. As mums, dads, kids… just everyday ‘Joes’ going about their business. Given how pervasive change is, wouldn’t it be great if we could all strengthen our personal ‘change muscle’?

It was with this thought in my mind that I started to reflect on how I personally respond to change in my life. Not that I see myself as an expert, I’m just someone who recognises they don’t deal very well with change but has worked on that over the years. It occurred to me that there are things that I do, almost sub-consciously, to help myself cope with change. And I thought “Wouldn’t it be great if I could somehow capture this and share it with others?” So I did.

And Change Frame was born. This concept began for me as my way of reaching out to the world in general to try to share my personal tips and tricks for dealing effectively with change. On a personal level, I’m passionate about people and how they can get the best out of their life. On a professional level, I also can’t help but think that general, personal, ‘change agility’ is where organisations need to begin when building change capability for their staff. It’s a beautiful marriage for my personal passion and professional skillset.

Change Frame is my way of keeping change simple to make my world a better place. And I’ve decided to share it with you. Stay tuned for more of my future posts where I will walk through what Change Frame is and how you can use it make your world a better place.
